CA medical center achieves major water savings, exceeds state drought goal

U.S. Water in partnership with St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif., has completed a water efficiency program at the facility, resulting in an estimated water savings of 3.6 million gallons per year.


ST. MICHAEL, MN, July 14, 2014 -- U.S. Water, a provider of integrated water and process solutions, in partnership with St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif., has completed a water efficiency program at the facility, resulting in an estimated water savings of 3.6 million gallons per year.

This represents an estimated 30-percent annual water usage savings for St. Vincent, well ahead of California's 20-percent water reduction goal by 2020. The cutback also translated into an estimated $76,000 in annual cost savings for the medical center.

The savings were achieved through an improved automation package and enhanced chemistry program from U.S. Water. This program allowed the hospital's cooling towers to reduce water use through increased cycles of concentration, while maintaining the same comfortable conditions.

The improvements were co-funded by the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP) and Los Angeles' Metropolitan Water Department (MWD). With the help of U.S. Water, St. Vincent now has been approved to receive evaporation credits for reduced sewage costs.
