• More than 75 critical updates available in print and interactive online editions

ENGLEWOOD, CO, Oct. 13, 2009 -- IHS Inc., a leading global source of critical information and insight, today announced the availability to pre-order the new 2010 edition of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) -- an internationally recognized code for the latest rules of safety in the design, fabrication, maintenance and inspection of boilers and pressure vessels, power producing machines and associated subsystems, and nuclear power plant components. The updated version, including more than 75 critical changes, will be released in July 2010, and preordering is now available.

The Update: No Small Matter
Originating in 1914, the ASME BPVC is relied upon by governments and companies around the world to ensure the security, safety and reliability of equipment dependent on steam pressure. Originally 114 pages long, the Code now spans more than 18,000 pages filling 30 binders. IHS offers both the traditional print version of the Code, as well the interactive, electronic version -- IHS ASME BPVC Advantage -- giving customers access in a variety of formats to best meet their organizations' individual needs.

"Inspectors and engineers need to know the Code in minute detail. For some, a printed desktop shelf reference is the best resource, however others find the 18,000 page document unwieldy and difficult to navigate," said IHS Senior Vice President, Product Lifecycle Tom Littman. "At IHS, we know that every customer's needs are different, so we offer the ASME BPVC in a variety of formats -- from printed binders to custom options combining a collection of the Code sections and other standards available from our catalog, as well as the interactive IHS ASME BPVC Advantage."

A Streamlined Solution for a Complex Code
IHS ASME BPVC Advantage was designed to give the Code's many users a way to quickly and easily locate the information that is relevant to their job, and offers distinct benefits over print or other "electronic" (PDF) versions. HTML-based, it facilitates collaboration across an organization, and helps to capture users' institutional knowledge of the Code via integrated annotation and document sharing tools. IHS ASME BPVC Advantage is compatible with any internet-enabled device, including smart phones and PDAs, making it an invaluable tool for customers needing access to the Code in the field.

"Because IHS developed it with significant customer input, I'm not at all surprised that the IHS ASME BPVC Advantage product has had a significant impact on customer processes," said ASME Managing Director, S&C Operations Michael Merker. "The knowledge capture and sharing capabilities are particularly timely in regard to engineering workforce issues."

"IHS ASME BPVC Advantage enables us to drive to a whole new level of efficiency," added Dresser Consolidated's Manager of Quality Assurance Erik Heck. "More importantly, it allows us to respond with greater speed to customer inquiries."

Pre-orders for the print version of the 2010 Code as well as the IHS ASME BPVC Advantage are now being accepted. For more information about Code delivery options from IHS, or to pre-order, visit www.ihs.com/codestore or www.ihs.com/advantage.
