Public opinion needed in Calif. for proposed plan

SAN DIEGO — The local water authority recently released an agreement to buy water from a proposed water desalination plant.

SAN DIEGO— In Southern California, water is a precious resource and its stable future is vital for the San Diego area, according to an article on kpbs.org.

According to the article, the San Diego County Water Authority recently released an agreement to buy water from a proposed water desalination plant in Carlsbad.

According to the water authority, if the agreement is passed, the plan could provide enough water to cover 7 percent of San Diego's water needs.

A private company, continued the article, would need to build a desalination plant, which holds an estimated cost of $900 million.

“Desalination has been in our plans for quite some time,” said Sandra Kerl, deputy general manager for the San Diego County Water Authority.
