Queensland wastewater plant to use GE MBR technology

Nov. 11, 2013

TREVOSE, Pa. — The Australian plant will be upgraded to meet new environmental regulations and expected population growth.

TREVOSE, Pa. — GE's LEAPmbr membrane bioreactor (MBR) wastewater treatment technology will be used in Unitywater's Maleny sewage treatment plant upgrade in Queensland, Australia, according to a press release.

The system is expected to allow the plant to double the amount of water treated per day to one million liters, the release reported.

The Unitywater plant expansion was spurred by new environmental regulations and expected population growth, noted the release.

"By upgrading our plant, we’ll be able to treat more wastewater to meet the needs of a growing population, while also meeting stringent environmental regulations and minimizing costs,” said Simon Taylor, executive manager, infrastructure planning and capital delivery, Unitywater.

According to the release, Australian engineering, construction, maintenance and industrial services company Monadelphous will be upgrading the plant.
