BOSTON — Nov. 12, 2015 — Dow Water & Process Solutions received a Silver Special Recognition Award from R&D Magazine for its ultrafiltration technology used in home washing machines, according to a press release.

Dow’s PURINZE™ Ultrafiltration (UF) Technology is used in the Haier Group’s Casarte washing machine, noted the release. The award was given in the Special Recognition Green Tech category because it addresses water scarcity issues with high filtration performance.

The magazine established the Green Tech Special Recognition Awards to acknowledge innovations that increase efficiency and reduce energy consumption to help society reduce its footprint, stated the release.

“We are delighted to have our innovation for water conservation and bacteria removal recognized by R&D Magazine,” said Snehal Desai, global business director for Dow Water & Process Solutions, in the release. “Applying ultrafiltration technology to a washing machine is an industry first, and an award like the R&D Green Tech Special Recognition helps to greatly increase the awareness of the impact innovations can make in a water-stressed world.”

Casarte testing showed the UF module can last for the life of the washing machine, reported the release. Running continuously throughout the wash cycle, water molecules pass through the module while bacteria, mites, dirt and other contaminants are blocked.

Desai added in the release that the technology gets more people involved in using resources sustainably. “We are indeed developing influential innovations that will help enable human progress.”

Six other Dow technologies were also recognized by the magazine, shared the release.
