RALEIGH, N.C. — Sensus, a clean technology solutions company, offers smart meters, communication systems, software and services for the electric, gas and water industries.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) selected Sensus for its smart water network solution and data analytics technologies, to provide FlexNet™ communication network, meter data management software and a customer portal, according to a press release.

The Sensus FlexNet system is a long-range radio network that serves as a dedicated and secure two-way communications highway and requires less infrastructure than competing solutions, stated the release.

PWSA wanted a solution that would easily track water, identify leaks and save customers money, to help reach the utility’s goal of providing its 83,000 customers with the highest quality of water at the lowest possible cost, reported the release.

The wireless point-to-multi-point network delivers data that allows customers to check water consumption and receive text messages and email alerts about possible leaks, and by September, approximately 78,000 water meter readers will be installed in homes and businesses throughout the city, continued the release.

“This money-saving upgrade will benefit our utility and our customers,” said PWSA Public Information Officer Melissa Rubin. “We expect to save approximately $120,000 per year, allowing us to maintain affordable rates.”
