REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — On Wednesday, October 15, elected officials and senior water officials from the Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency (BAWSCA), San Francisco, San Mateo County and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), celebrated the first Hetch Hetchy drinking water deliveries through the new Bay Tunnel, according to a press release.

The ceremony was held at the same place where the first Hetch Hetchy Water entered Crystal Springs Reservoir at the historic Pulgas Water Temple 80 years ago, stated the release.

The first tunnel under San Francisco Bay and one of the SFPUC’s last major Water System Improvement Projects, the new Bay Tunnel is a seismically-reliable water lifeline connecting Hetch Hetchy and East Bay water supplies to customers on the Peninsula and in San Francisco, noted the release.
