VALDOSTA, Fla. — The total suspended solids result was 1.5 higher than the weekly average of 45 milligrams per liter allowed.

VALDOSTA, Fla. — A statement from the city of Valdosta, Fla. warns residents that it exceeded the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit limit when 7.2 million gallons of total suspended solids was discharged from the Withlacoochee Wastewater Treatment Plant, according to a press release.

The total suspended solids result for the effluent sample collected July 30, 2013 was 103 milligrams per liter, which is greater than 1.5 times the weekly average of 45 milligrams per liter allowed by the NPDES permit, stated the release.

The city said that contractors will be brought in to outline projects to build the plant within compliance of the NPDES permit until the plant can be relocated.

The new plant will cost $20 million and is expected to be completed by August 2015, noted the release.
