STANFORD, Calif. — The Stanford Nitrogen Group will test the application of their CANDO technology at Delta Diablo.

STANFORD, Calif. — Stanford Nitrogen Group has announced a new resource recovery research partnership with the Delta Diablo Sanitation District in Antioch, Calif., according to a press release.

Stanford Nitrogen Group, a former Imagine H2O Water Business Competition finalist, is currently developing a new wastewater treatment process to remove and recover energy from ammonia, reported the release.

According to the release, the process is called the Coupled Aerobic-anoxic Nitrous Decomposition Operation (CANDO) and improves the efficiency of nitrogen treatment while recovering energy from nitrogen.

A pilot-scale demonstration unit will be operated at the Delta Diablo Plant to test the application of the CANDO technology, noted the release.

"Delta Diablo is extremely proud to have been selected by Stanford Nitrogen Group to partner with such an esteemed group of researchers," said Amanda Roa, environmental compliance engineer at Delta Diablo.  "Exploring and supporting this project reflects our resource recovery mission by supplementing our existing renewable energy production to help offset costs of running our plant."
