Tampa Bay Water fills regional reservoir

July 30, 2014

LITHIA, Fla. — Tampa Bay Water will fill the C.W. Bill Young Regional Reservoir on Thursday, July 31.

LITHIA, Fla. — Tampa Bay Water, a provider of wholesale water to the public utility systems of Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties, as well as New Port Richey, St. Petersburg and Tampa, Fla., will deliver water to the C.W. Bill Young Regional Reservoir on Thursday, July 31, according to a press release.

The reservoir, which began operations in 2005, holds 15.5 billion gallons of water and when full, can provide up to 25 percent of the region’s drinking water needs for more than six months, stated the release.

Due to a cracked erosion-control layer, the reservoir was taken offline in 2013 for repairs, continued the release.

The renovation required more than 140 pieces of heavy equipment, recycled over 700,000 cubic yards of soil, and included more than 500,000 cubic yards of soil cement and over 105,000 tons of cement, noted the release.
