Texans asked to conserve water

Sept. 23, 2013

AUSTIN, Texas — Despite recent rainfall lakes are still nearing historic lows.

AUSTIN, Texas —  Three inches of rain fell in Austin on Friday, but state officials are encouraging Texans to conserve water as lakes are near historic lows, KXAN reported.

The Sept. 23 story said the state of Texas set up a website which outlines ways to save water. The website can be found at TexasWaterSmart.com.

The story quoted Texas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples (who is also running for lieutenant governor in 2014) who stated, "When you're brushing your teeth in the morning, or shaving, be certain that you're only using water when you really need to and otherwise the that faucet is off. Be certain to use a bucket to water your patio plants with rather than a hose because a few drops spilled, if that's saved, adds up to big water savings."
