USAID funds water filtration project in Pakistan

SUKKUR, Pakistan — U.S. ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson announced the funding for the city of Jacobabad this week.

SUKKUR, Pakistan — Richard Olson, United States ambassador to Pakistan, has announced that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide $36 million for a water filtration project in Jacobabad, according to an article by The Express Tribune.

Olsen announced the funding at the inauguration ceremony of the water filtration plant in Jacobabad, continued the article, saying the project will improve the city's drainage system and provide potable drinking water to the residents.

The project will be completed by 2015, noted the article.

“Potable drinking water and better drainage are prerequisites for a healthy society,” he said. “Therefore we are focusing on supplying potable water to the citizens of Sindh.”

USAID plans to establish 136 schools throughout Sindh within the next five years and has planned a $10 million budget for it, reported the article.
