CHICAGO, Ill. — The aqueduct supplies an average of 142 million gallons of drinking water per day.

CHICAGO, Ill. — Veolia Water, a leading water and wastewater services provider, has been hired by the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC Water) to conduct a review of wholesale water provider the Washington Aqueduct, according to a press release.

The Washington Aqueduct, continued the release, is federally owned and supplies 142 million gallons of drinking water per day to DC Water, Arlington County and Falls Church.

According to the release, Veolia's review will result in recommendations for greater efficiency, reduced costs and streamlined operations.

"As the largest wholesale water customer of Washington Aqueduct, our goal is to ensure that the Aqueduct is performing efficiently and providing DC Water with maximum value and helping ensure stable, affordable rates," said George Hawkins, general manager of DC Water. "This initiative is taken with the full backing of the Aqueduct."

The review will take place over a period of four months, the release reported.
