KANKAKEE, Ill. — The state is issuing $21.5 million in low-interest loan money for a major upgrade at the wastewater treatment plant in Kankakee, Ill., according to the Seattle Post Intelligencer.

Gov. Pat Quinn announced the funding, which will come from the $1 billion Illinois Clean Water Initiative.

The plan will serve around 69,000 customers, but that could expand to over 100,000 by 2030, noted the article.

The project, which is totaling around $56 million, is expected to be complete in about three years.
