Goodyear endorses efforts of WWIF by donating a blimp ride for two

The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company (Goodyear) endorsed the efforts of the Wishing Well International Foundation (WWIF) by donating a blimp ride for two people, which will be auctioned off at the upcoming Lighthouse Point Chili Cook Off and Tennis Round Robin on April 27. The certificate issued by Goodyear will be good for a year and the winner of the ride will schedule the one-hour flight directly with the company. The blimp is housed at the Pompano Beach, Florida hangar where the flight will start.

Survey shows over half of Americans are concerned about water quality

According to a new survey, more than half of Americans have concerns about the quality of their water and that we are increasingly showing a willingness to pay for treatment in the home. These are among the conclusions of an independent survey released at the recent Water Quality Association Aquatech USA convention. The random sample survey, conducted by Applied Research-West Inc., offers a look into Americans' evolving attitude about their water. The survey showed that slightly over half, or 55 percent, consider themselves somewhat or very knowledgeable about contaminants in their tap water. Respondents are concerned, with nearly 80 percent believing that tap water contains chloramine, and nearly as many thinking lead is present.

Proposal brought forth to address unnecessary waste of water from low level leaks

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), in a groundbreaking partnership with utilities from across the nation including: Austin Water Utility and San Antonio Water System of Texas and American Water, with the support of East Bay Municipal Utility District of California and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, submitted a proposal to the American Water Works Association (AWWA) to revise national accuracy standards for new water meters to tackle the unnecessary waste of water from low level leaks. More than one trillion gallons of water leak from U.S. homes each year and 10 percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more per day, often unbeknownst to homeowners, according to the U.S. EPA’s WaterSense Program.

Garcia is responsible for southwest U.S. and Latin/South America and Smith is responsible for Canada, northwest U.S., Alaska and Hawaii. Garcia brings 20 years of water works experience to Singer Valve. His experience extends to building distributor relationships, gaining product acceptance and specification approvals as well as creating training programs to educate distributors, end users and municipalities. Smith has worked with Singer Valve in the packaged systems division since 2005 where he managed all aspects of design, assembly and installation for customers across North America.

Jeff Theerman, the former executive director of the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District, has joined Brown and Caldwell as a vice president. Theerman will be a valuable addition to the company’s Utility Performance practice team — a multidisciplinary group of industry experts with collaborative ability to guide utilities through successful business optimization programs.
