TOKYO, Japan — A radioactive water leak at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant has been classified as a level 3 “serious incident” on an international scale, according to CNN International.
The decision was made by the Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA). Spokesman Juntaro Yamada said the NRA consulted with the Vienna-based international Atomic Energy Agency, noted the article.
The NRA issued its worst warning since the 2011 earthquake and tsunami that sent three reactors at the plant into meltdown, stated the article.
There are seven levels of warnings on the international scale, with seven being for a major accident like the meltdowns.
