JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — A leak in a sewer line led to the discharge of about 10,000 gallons of untreated wastewater into Mill Creek, according to The Daily News.
The leak started in the sewer line before moving into the stormwater lines, which discharged the water into the creek.
Emergency work is being done to try and repair the leaks as roads are being blocked off, noted the article.
The state has been notified of the unintentional discharge and the city of Jacksonville, N.C. is following guidance from the state on what steps should be taken, stated the article.
The city will be monitoring and testing the area where the discharge occurred to check the water quality.
