WELLINGTON, New Zealand — A desalination plant that has just been commissioned on Viwa Island in the Yasawa group in Fiji will benefit 240 residents on the island, according to an article by Radio New Zealand International.
Feleti Teo, deputy secretary general of the Pacific Islands Forum, says the project will give residents a safe a sustained supply of water, reducing their dependence on rainfall, according to the article.
The islands of Kia, Kavewa in the Macuata Province and Vanuavata in the Lau group will also be participating in the Fiji Water Desalination Project, the article reported.
According to the article, the plant is funded through the Pacific Environment Community Fund.
