DUPAGE COUNTY, Ill. — DuPage County officials cut the ribbon on a new 24-hour waste processing facility at the Woodridge Greene Valley Wastewater Treatment Facility making it the first of its kind in Illinois, according to the Sun-Times.
The new system simply uses gravity to allow the liquid part of the waste to run off into its own system.
Previously, public works drivers had to remove waste from stormwater sewers and then dry the refuse before taking it to the dump. This process was time-consuming and inefficient in terms of protecting groundwater and streams, noted the article.
County officials are hoping to save thousands of dollars per year with this new system.
“It’s a great day for the treatment of wastewater,” said DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin. “It really is a remarkable idea, yet so simple.”
