HERSHEY, Pa. — Eagle Hose Company No. 1 in Dickson City, Lackawanna County, and Citizens Fire Company No. 1 in Palmyra, Lebanon County, were awarded grants after winning the most votes in the Pennsylvania American Water’s “Keystone Firefighting Challenge,” according to a press release.
Pennsylvania American Water, a supplier of high quality water and wastewater services, featured the challenge on its Facebook page, encouraging Facebook users to vote for their favorite fire department among the 22 competing departments, stated the release.
Eagle Hose Company No. 1 was the overall winner, receiving 1,251 votes out of the total 3,968 votes casted, and Citizens Fire Company No. 1 collected 787 of the total votes, continued the release.
Eagle Hose Company No. 1 is planning to use its $700 winnings to help pay for a new hydrant assist valve and Citizens Fire Company No. 1 wants to use its $300 grant to offset the costs for state-certified firefighting training, noted the release.
“The Keystone Firefighting Challenge was a fun and friendly competition using social media, to engage local fire departments in the communities we serve,” said Pennsylvania American Water President Kathy L. Pape. “We’re proud to help support the purchase of equipment and training for the winning fire companies and grateful for our customers’ Facebook votes of confidence in their important work.”
