MARSEILLE, France —The World Water Council and the Japan Water Forum announced the opening of candidatures for the 4th edition of the Kyoto World Water Grand Prize, according to a press release.
The Kyoto World Water Grand Prize targets grass-roots establishments from developing countries with an objective to discover and develop outstanding grass-roots activities related to water issues around the world, stated the release.
The release reported that targeted activities can include: Awareness-raising campaigns and promotion of participatory process on water-related issues such as water supply and sanitation, drainage, projects, irrigation, water-related diseases, dams, river and lake basins, groundwater, wetlands, capacity building, poverty, gender and/or ethnic equity, community participation, poverty reduction and more.
The deadline to apply is Sept. 30, and the selection process will primarily focus on organizations with a record of innovated and expandable grass-roots activities that serve as a model for others, with additional consideration to the contents of the project — funded by the grant, including the degree of problem solving, cost-effectiveness, expandability and sustainability, noted the release.
