BIRMINGHAM — In Water Technology’s “Contaminant of the Month: EPA’s Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule” Technical Editor Dr. Joseph Cotruvo explains the process of forming UCMRs and offers insight into the current UCMR 3 underway as well as the upcoming UCMR 4.
In the article, Dr. Cotruvo provides EPA’s current UCMR 4 working list of candidates, which consists of the following:

Four halogenated acetic acid disinfection byproducts (HAAs)
The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) specifies three conditions that EPA must meet to select candidates for regulation: It may have an adverse effect on the health; occurrence in public water systems with a frequency and at levels of public health concern; and regulation presents a meaningful opportunity for health risk reduction.
