Newly introduced Savings Act promotes affordable drinking water systems

WASHINGTON — The “Water Supply Cost Savings Act,” or “Savings Act,”  will aim to reduce the costs to federal, state and local governments in supplying quality drinking water to millions of Americans living in rural and isolated communities by promoting cost-effective community well water systems.

WASHINGTON — Congressman Marlin Stutzman recently introduced the ''Water Supply Cost Savings Act,'' or ''Savings Act,'' legislation to provide small communities across the U.S. with crucial information on the use of water wells and water well systems to deliver high quality, affordable drinking water, according to a press release.

The Savings Act will aim to reduce the costs to federal, state and local governments in supplying quality drinking water to millions of Americans living in rural and isolated communities by promoting cost-effective community well water systems, stated the release.

The release reported that the newly introduced legislation will also establish a Drinking Water Technology Clearinghouse, where the administrator for the EPA and the secretary of the Department of Agriculture will provide information on economical, innovative and alternative drinking water delivery systems, including those supported by wells, to help assist small communities considering drinking water technologies.

"The Savings Act is a simple, common sense bill that can save taxpayer dollars and help rural communities gain access to much needed high quality drinking water," said Stutzman. "I am thrilled to have the support of the Water Systems Council, the Water Quality Association and the [National Ground Water Association] to advance this important legislation."
