Webinar to address concerns regarding Ebola in wastewater

ARLINGTON, Va. — The webinar will investigate issues related to wastewater worker safety as well as Ebola inactivation through wastewater treatment processes.

ARLINGTON, Va. — Bloomberg BNA announced plans for an upcoming webinar investigating wastewater worker safety issues as well as how to inactivate traces of Ebola through wastewater treatment processes, according to information provided by Bloomberg BNA.

The webinar will also discuss the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) document, “Interim Guidance for Managers and Workers Handling Untreated Sewage from Individuals with Ebola in the United States,” which addresses basic hygiene practices and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and disposal actions that should be taken.

The release reported that for the webinar, Bloomberg BNA, along with the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and the Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF), will feature a panel including: Naoko Munakata of WEF and Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County, Matthew J. Arduino of CDC, Christopher Stacklin of WEF and Orange County Sanitation District, Tim Williams of WEF (webinar moderator) and Mark Sobsey of Gillings School of Global Public Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The educational objectives of the webinar consist of: The exploration of sanitation and personal protective practices for wastewater personnel and other resources on operator safety, an analysis of the recently released CDC document and an overview of what is known about the survival of the Ebola virus in wastewater and what is needed regarding research.
