FAIRBANKS, Alaska — After providing emergency water assistance to the Philippines last year, a Fairbanks-based group plans to return to the country to help give communities longer-term access to clean water, according to a news release provided by newsminer.com.
Organized after Typhoon Haiyan, Fairbanks residents contributed more than $28,000 to disaster relief at a fundraiser dinner at the Alpine Lodge, stated the release.
According to one of the group’s organizers, Kevin Temple, the contributions raised helped secure water for thousands of people, continued the release.
The release reported that the group, called Fresh Water for the Philippines, helped build cistems as well as buy water purification tablets, water testing kits and water pumps.
To help fund this year’s effort, the group is holding another fundraiser dinner Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. located at the Alpine Lodge, noted the release.
