Aclara introduces smart infrastructure technology

Feb. 10, 2015

SAN DIEGO — Aclara Technologies LLC is a supplier of smart infrastructure technologies to electric, gas and water utilities around the world.

SAN DIEGO — Aclara Technologies LLC announced the introduction of Metrum LTE™, “the company’s latest innovation in a product line designed to bring cellular connectivity to meters and other devices on utility networks,” according to a press release.

Aclara showcased the new technology during DistribuTECH 2015, held Feb. 3-5 in San Diego, stated the release.

Metrum LTE, built on 4G LTE, is an IP-enabled solution that “leverages existing infrastructure investments,” supplying utilities with high-speed, secure and private networks using their own public key infrastructures, reported the release.

The solution allows direct communication to residential and commercial meters in addition to SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) devices, continued the release.

Working with Aclara’s iiDEAS platform, Metrum LTE supplies smart grid applications including outage and restoration management, fault detection and location, AMI, volt/Var optimization, and conservation voltage reduction, noted the release.

“The launch of Metrum LTE continues our introduction of technology advancements to enable a true smart infrastructure environment for utilities around the country, and allows our customers to extend the value of their infrastructure investments,” said Aclara President and CEO Allan Connolly.
