Los Angeles Sanitation receives two NACWA National Environmental Achievement Awards

LOS ANGELES — The National Association of Clean Water Agencies’ (NACWA) National Achievement Awards program recognizes individuals and member agencies that have made “outstanding contributions” to wastewater management and environmental protection.

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Sanitation received two National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) National Environmental Achievement Awards at the 2015 Winter Conference held in Charleston, North Carolina, according to a press release.

The National Achievement Awards program recognizes individuals and member agencies that have made “outstanding contributions to environmental protection and wastewater management,” stated the release.

The Ed P. Reyes River Greenway received the 2015 Operations and Environmental Performance Award, and the Los Angeles Environmental Learning Center at Hyperion won the 2015 Public Information and Education Award, reported the release.

The release continued that the Ed P. Reyes River Greenway is a stormwater treatment facility that provides open, free green space to the community of Lincoln Heights.

The Environmental Learning Center, noted the release, was designed to educate adults and children about sustainable management of water and solid researches in Los Angeles.

“These awards are a reflection on Los Angeles Sanitation's environmental leadership, innovation and commitment to developing a sustainable Los Angeles, as well as the important task of educating and inspiring our youngest citizens to respond to tomorrow’s challenges,” said Adel Hagekhalil, assistant director.
