DENVER — The research will focus on disinfectant residuals.

DENVER —The American Water Works Association (AWWA) and Environmental Engineering & Technology (EET) are looking for participants for research on disinfectant residuals in August and September, according to a press release.

The study will involve utilities "that use free chlorine either pre- or post-filter (not raw water) year-round for secondary disinfection in their distribution systems and have levels of DBPs near the 64/48 TTHM/HAA5 (80% of the Maximum Contaminant Levels)," noted the release.

Participants and EET staff will aim to better understand each system and chlorination feed points through discussions, stated the release. Utilities will collect and ship (with prepaid shipping) water samples in the next 30 to 60 days.

The results and/or the published paper will not identify specific utilities, but each will receive its own results, reported the release.

For more information about the research or to participate, contact AWWA Regulatory Affairs Manager Steve Via at [email protected] or 202-326-6130, shared the release.
