WEF announces Student Design Competition winners

The teams received certificates and $2,500 awards during a September ceremony.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Oct. 6, 2015 — Student teams from Southern Methodist University and North Dakota State University won the Water Environment Federation’s (WEF) 2015 Student Design Competition, according to a press release.

Southern Methodist University won the wastewater design category with its "City of Grapevine Wastewater Treatment Plant Master Plant" project, noted the release. North Dakota State University’s "Water Reclamation for Irrigation of Softball Complex" project won the team first place. The victories were the second wins for the teams.

Julie Ellis sponsored the Southern Methodist University team, stated the release. Other team members include Kaylee Dusek, Abigail Klaus and Allison Leopold.

The North Dakota State University team includes Kellen Grubb, Luisa Torres, Anna Cunningham, Dain Synhorst and faculty advisor Wei Lin, reported the release.

The teams received certificates and $2,500 awards during a ceremony in September, shared the release. Southern Methodist University represented the Water Environment Association of Texas and North Dakota State University is a student chapter of the North Dakota Water Environment Association.

The competition was sponsored by Black & Veatch, Bentley Systems, CDM Smith, and Greeley and Hansen, noted the release.
