NASA and the Water Council offer water tech workshop

NASA’s Glenn Research Center and the Water Council are partnering to help businesses solve technical water challenges through Glenn’s Regional Economic Initiative with an event called TechConnect: Water Challenge Workshop on March 21, 2018. This is the first-ever NASA TechConnect event focused specifically on water technology. The event, which was announced during WEFTEC 2017, is an opportunity for companies to receive up to 40 hours of support from NASA Glenn’s world-renowned subject matter experts in solving technical challenges they are having with new or existing products or within their manufacturing operations. Up to four U.S.-owned businesses selected to participate in the event will have the opportunity to work with the Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership (WMEP), who will assist businesses in articulating a concise problem statement that corresponds with NASA competencies. NASA experts will then assist the selected companies through a face-to-face, one-day consulting session on March 21 at the Ohio Aerospace Institute in Cleveland. These selected manufacturers will also have the opportunity to apply for an additional 32 hours of technical assistance. The application deadline is December 15, 2017. LANXESS showcases new tech at Aquatech

LANXESS offers Lewatit brand ion exchange resins, Lewabrane membrane elements for reverse osmosis and Bayoxide iron oxide adsorbers. One process example to be featured at its booth at Aquatech Amsterdam (October 31-November 3) is the efficient purification of feedwater for water/steam cycles in power plants. Further examples are also becoming increasingly important, such as the effluent-free treatment of dye mill wastewater (zero liquid discharge) or the removal of critical organic pollutants (micropollutants) in wastewater treatment.

LANXESS addresses current challenges in water treatment with a range of new developments, including energy-efficient membrane elements from the Lewabrane RO ULP line (Reverse Osmosis – Ultra Low Pressure), Lewatit NM 3367 mixed bed ion exchange resin for desalination and Lewatit TP 107 selective ion exchange resin with high Cr(VI) binding capacity. Also, LewaPlus design software now features a module for innovative reverse osmosis technology.

Amane Advisors adds managing partner

Amane Advisors announced that Bill Malarkey has joined the firm as managing partner in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Malarkey has more than 20 years’ experience in international water and infrastructure markets, particularly in the areas of strategy development, mergers and acquisitions, public-private partnerships, and corporate and project finance. Malarkey held senior management positions in strategy/corporate development with Severn Trent – North America, American Water, Thames Water and RWE, and he headed the Water & Industrials investment banking practice group at Boenning & Scattergood Inc. Additionally, Malarkey has served as an advisory board member for the Urban Water Council of the U.S. Conference of Mayors and as vice chairman of the Water Institute of the National Council for Public-Private Partnerships.
