Commercial laundry helps MWD launch industrial conservation program
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 18, 2005 -- A major commercial laundry in Los Angeles has helped the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California launch a new industrial water conservation program that pays an incentive for new water-saving improvements. Republic Master Chefs, and its parent company American Textile Maintenance, installed $390,000 of new equipment and systems that will save up to 16.5 million gallons of water per year -- or as much as 38% of the laundry's annual water usage...

Smithfield Foods' employees test rivers for World Water Monitoring Day
SMITHFIELD, VA, Oct. 18, 2005 -- Smithfield Foods' employees in Poland, Romania, France and the United States joined volunteers worldwide to test the quality of waterways during the month leading up to today's annual observance. The international effort involved employees from 23 Smithfield Foods' subsidiaries who recruited hundreds of local volunteers at 55 locations in 17 U.S. states and three other countries to collect water samples from more than 60 bodies of water from Romania's Bega to South Dakota's Big Sioux River...
