CHICAGO, Oct. 21, 2005 -- Wu Chen, education committee chair for the American Filtration & Separations Society (AFS), recently announced that AFS will now offer CEUs for Filtration Short Course attendees. Course attendees at the AFS 2005 Fall Conference were the first to receive CEUs. CEUs will be awarded according to standards set by the engineering community.

According to Dr. Chen, "Offering CEUs as part of our Filtration Short Course Program has been one of the most important goals of the Education Committee and the Society and is an important component of our mission and vision as a premier technical and education society."

AFS has been offering their Filtration Short Course as part of the annual Spring and Fall Conferences for over six years. Day-long courses include a Basic Liquid Filtration Course and a Basic Gas Filtration Course. More advanced half-day courses have and will include Gas/Solid Separations with Cyclones, Gas/Solid Separations with Fabric Filters, Cartridge and Bag Filtration, Micro-filtration with Membranes, and Practical Guide to Gravity Sedimentation. All courses are taught by filtration industry engineering and education leaders.

AFS' Annual Fall Topical Conference was held Sept. 19-22 in Ann Arbor, Mich. The 2006 AFS Annual Conference & Exposition, May 9-11, will be held in conjunction with the Powder & Bulk Solids Show at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center (formerly Rosemont Center) in Chicago. This is the first co-located exhibition with PBS. In 2007, it will be co-located with the WQA Aquatech USA Annual Convention & Exhibition at the Orlando Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. The 2005 spring event was in Atlanta, Ga., where AIChE co-located its annual conference.

Basic and Advanced Filtration Short Courses will be offered in conjunction with the AFS Spring 2006 Conference in Chicago.

With over 400 individual and corporate members, the AFS is the world's largest technical society for the Filtration and Particle/Separation Industry. In addition, AFS is the principal educator for industry suppliers, manufacturers and end-users. AFS meets the needs of both the Industrial and Higher Education Venues.
