COLUMBUS, OHIO, June 18, 2002 -- Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS) has expanded its interactive Installation Training Guide tools to include its latest storm water retention/detention system design.

Columbus-based ADS, the world's largest manufacturer of corrugated high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe, has recently issued its Storm Compressor(tm) Installation Training CD. The disk is available free by contacting ADS at 1-800-821-6710.

The Storm Compressor is ideally suited for the smaller footprint requirements of small commercial establishments such as fast food restaurants, convenient stores and gas stations. It has also been successfully installed at larger retail stores with much more footprint area to work with. The design substantially narrows the width of the trench by placing pipes in contact with each other. That feature significantly reduces the volume of earth needed to be excavated, while achieving the large storage volume requirement.

The new training CD provides information on trench preparation, geosynthetics, attaching the manifold pipe, wrapping procedures and the attachment and termination of lateral pipe. And ADS field engineers are always on site to answer any questions installers may have during an individual project.

The large diameter lateral pipe runs are placed next to each other, eliminating the spacings and supporting backfill between the laterals as required by typical designs. Instead, smaller diameter N-12 pipe is placed in the upper and lower haunch areas of the larger pipe. The smaller pipe produces a bridging effect between the soil and the laterals. For retention systems, the haunch pipe can also provide additional storage capacity.

Next, bundles composed of 3 to 4 lateral runs are wrapped with a geo-grid to hold the system together tightly through installation, minimize tensile stress, distribute overburden loads and bridge void areas. A geotextile is added to act as a filter for soil and backfill fines.

About Advanced Drainage Systems
Founded in 1966, Advanced Drainage Systems manufacturers soil-tight and watertight pipe and fittings for most gravity flow systems. ADS N-12( HDPE pipe is available in diameters from four to 60 inches and provides an easier installation, lower cost per foot, and higher corrosion and abrasion resistance than traditional products.
