PASADENA, Calif., Oct 1, 2002 -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. Tuesday announced that its Canadian subsidiary received a major environmental project from Petro-Canada as part of the Refinery Conversion program at Petro-Canada's refinery near Edmonton, Alberta.

The Refinery Conversion program is Petro-Canada's project to convert their Edmonton, Alberta, refinery so they can receive bitumen feedstock from their own oil sands properties rather than relying on conventional light crudes.

Officials estimate the total installed cost of the environmental project at $150 million. Work begins immediately on the front-end design for the facility and is expected to continue into full detailed engineering by the summer of 2003.

Jacobs will provide engineering and procurement services on a new sulfur complex employing Jacobs' own SUPERCLAUS® sulfur removal technology. The SUPERCLAUS process is Jacobs' proprietary technology to recover sulphur from gasses containing H2S. Jacobs has over 450 units licensed and/or constructed worldwide.

In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Phil Stassi stated, "We have been serving Petro-Canada and its predecessor companies for 44 years and look forward to this opportunity to further strengthen our relationship. This project marks our first opportunity to provide a Canadian client with a total sulfur removal design solution from technology through project execution."

Petro-Canada is one of Canada's largest oil and gas companies, operating in both the upstream and downstream sectors of the industry in Canada and internationally. Its common shares trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol PCA and on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol PCZ.
