Fluid control

For boiler feed measurement in industrial water settings, both the Burkert Type 8041 Electromagnetic Flow Transmitter and Burkert Type 8045 Insertion Magflowmeter offer a calibrated pulse output, with the signal sent directly to a pump for ratio dosing control during chemical addition. Both units are designed for high temperature/high pressure use, and each incorporates a stainless steel finger and fitting. Both also feature a 4-20 mA current output, plus pulse rate and relay outputs.

Ultrapure water

Optimizing pretreatment systems (clarifiers, filters, etc.) is the key to maintaining performance of downstream equipment such as RO, demineralizers, and boilers. Chemtrac’s streaming current monitors help optimize the addition of coagulants prior to filtration. The particle counter, Model PC2400D, and particle monitor, Model PM2500, provides a level of on-line, continuous monitoring not achievable with SDI or turbidity measurement. The counter/monitor use laser and LED, light extinction/ fluctuation methods which can detect a few ppb of particulates as small as 1 um.

Chelant test kits

Chelant-based treatments are frequently used in process boiler feedwater to prevent mineral deposition caused by trace hardness leakage and to counteract other impurities. Chelants are also employed in some chemical cleaning programs. Taylor offers two drop tests for monitoring chelant levels. K-1544 measures total chelant (uncomplexed and complexed EDTA) and features an equivalence of 1 drop = 2 or 5 ppm EDTA. K-1554 reads uncomplexed EDTA and features an equivalence of 1 drop = 2 ppm EDTA.

Single-point SCMs

Waters Equipment Company’s Series 3100 Single Point Sample Conditioning Modules (SCM) provide a versatile tool for lowering the temperature and pressure of single samples in power plants and boiler rooms. Accurate information is critical for good decision-making. Dresser Instruments responds with instruments that exceed accuracy standards by introducing Ashcroft® digital test gauges with “Total Error Band” accuracy - a standard that includes the effects of linearity, repeatability, temperature and hysteresis. These use the terminal point method to express linearity, which requires the linearity line to coincide with zero and full-scale data points yielding better product specifications than the “Best Fit Straight Line” method.

Water treatment polymers

Good-Rite® K-700 polymers are used in a variety of industrial applications. As deposit control agents, they’re used by water treatment service companies as formulation components for water treatment (e.g., cooling, boiler) programs. The polymers are multi-functional anionic polyelectrolytes that disperse particulates (e.g., silt, clay, iron oxide, pigments), and inhibit scale formation (calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, calcium oxalate, barium sulfate, calcium phosphate, calcium phosphonate) over a broad pH range, and sequester di- and trivalent cations (calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, chromium, zinc).
