SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 9, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- URS Corp. announced today that Betsy Bernard, the former president of AT&T Corp., has joined its board of directors, effective immediately.

As AT&T president, Bernard led more than 50,000 employees within AT&T Business, an organization with $27 billion in revenues serving the needs of 4 million business customers. Previously, she led the 12,000 employees of AT&T Consumer, the company's residential telecommunications business. Bernard retired from AT&T in December 2003. Before AT&T, she served as president and CEO of Pacific Bell Communications, Pacific Telesis's long distance subsidiary, and Avirnex Communications Group. For three years in a row, she has appeared on Fortune's list of the "50 Most Powerful Women in Business," where she currently ranks 12th.

URS chairman and CEO Martin M. Koffel said: "Bernard's appointment brings our total number of independent directors on the URS Board to eight, with me as the only executive officer still on the board, which underscores the Company's continuing commitment to the highest standards of corporate governance."

In addition to the URS Board, Bernard serves on the boards of BearingPoint Inc., United Technologies Corp. and the Principal Financial Group. She holds a master's degree in management from Stanford University's Sloan Fellowship Program, an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a bachelor's degree from St. Lawrence University.
