SAUDI ARABIA — In an interview with Eco-Business.com, HE Dr. Abdulrahman M Al-Ibrahim, governor of Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, spoke on the idea of using renewable energy options for desalination.
According to Al-Ibrahim, the SWCC recently initiated construction of the first solar desalination plant in Al-Khafji that will produce 30,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day.
The plant uses a system operated by photovoltaic cells with an RO desalination system.
The SWCC’s overall commitment to operational excellence includes investigating and using a number of renewable energies, including solar, photovoltaic, thermal, wind and geothermal.
