GE presents two awards to Purdue University for environmental measures

TREVOSE, Pa. — GE awarded Purdue the Return on Environment and Proof Not Promises awards for their chemical-use savings.

TREVOSE, Pa. — GE has aided Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. in reducing the use of acid and caustic chemicals in the university's utility plant by providing them with a mobile reverse osmosis (RO) trailer, according to a press release.

The mobile RO trailer was used to give the university a cleaner water source for its demineralizer units, which reduced the amount of chemicals used on campus and also saved more than 2,000 hours of time, the release reported.

GE presented the Return on Environment (ROE) award and the Proof Not Promises Award (PNP) to Purdue University for the savings.

According to the release, Purdue had 22 fewer chemical deliveries to campus as a result of using 161 fewer tons of acid and 171 fewer tons of caustic.

"The implementation of the mobile reverse osmosis project reflects our ongoing commitment to addressing operational needs in an environmentally and fiscally responsible manner," said Michael B. Cline, vice president for physical facilities at Purdue.
