Recipients of Singapore International Water Week scholarship announced

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Winners will participate in next month’s Singapore International Water Week.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA), the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and the Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) have announced the recipients of their new Singapore International Water Week Scholarship (SIWWS), which will fund participation in the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) that is scheduled for June 1-5, according to a press release.

Eight recipients will join a delegation of U.S. utility leaders hosted by the Singapore Public Utility Board and the three scholarship sponsors to attend the event, reported the release.

According to the release, the scholarship recipients are: Jay Bernas, chief of planning and analysis, Hampton Roads Sanitation District, Virginia Beach, Va.; Rajendra Bhattarai, division manager, Austin Water Utility Environmental and Regulatory Services, Austin, Texas; Tom Broderick, deputy general manager operations, Loudoun Water, Ashburn, Va.; Sandra Kilroy, assistant director, King County Wastewater Treatment Division, Seattle, Wash.; Jim McQuarrie, division head of operations, Metro Wastewater Reclamation District, Denver, Denver, Colo.; Logan Olds, general manager, Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority, Hesperia, Calif.; Lou Storino, principal civil engineer, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, Chicago, Ill.; and Diane Taniguchi-Dennis, deputy general manager, Clean Water Services, Hillsboro, Ore.

“WEF, NACWA and WERF share a commitment to helping water facilities become water resource recovery facilities that contribute to economic growth and protect public heath and the environment,” said WEF Executive Director Dr. Eileen O’Neill. “This scholarship will help provide important perspectives and also contacts with other global water utility leaders with similar goals.”

SIWW is a global platform for water professionals to share innovative solutions for integration of sustainable water management strategies with urban planning processes, continued the release, with scholarship recipients receiving funds for travel, lodging and registration and writing papers or make presentations in the U.S. to share what they have learned.
