WQA endorses WWIF
After three years as a member, the Wishing Well International Foundation received official endorsement from the Water Quality Association (WQA). This is the first of its kind after criteria for endorsement of non-profits was developed by WQA over the last year, including 501(c)(3) status for a minimum of three years, WQA membership in good standing by the directors of the non-profit to be endorsed, mission statement that includes water filtration or purification as its main activity and financial transparency.
EPA modifies rules for engine replacement in drilling rigs
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) modified its final rules to allow the use of new exempt engines to replace failed engines in water well drilling rigs up to 40 years old. EPA’s initial proposal required that a new engine meeting current emission standards be used in the case of engine failure on water well drilling rigs older than 25 years, and depending on the make and model, there are physical and performance issues in bringing specialized water well drilling equipment up to Tier 4 engine standards. NGWA estimates that approximately 30 percent of rigs would have had problems meeting EPA’s initial proposal.
PWQA 57th Convention and Trade Show set for Sept. 30-Oct. 3
The Pacific Water Quality Association 57th Convention and Trade Show is taking place Sept. 30-Oct. 3 this year in San Diego, Calif. Networking, a banquet dinner, industry updates and awards, a golf tournament, a helicopter ball drop, educational seminars, a casino night reception, WQA Certified Water Specialist exams and a seminar on the “Basics of Water Treatment” are on the agenda.
EWQA Water Systems Training event registration open
Registration is open for the Eastern Water Quality Association‘s Water Treatment Systems Training event, May 1 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The all-day event includes registration at 7:30 a.m., educational sessions 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., with exhibition from noon until 2 p.m.
Aqua-Aerobic Systems launches new website feature
Aqua-Aerobic Systems recently launched a new and improved “Request a Design” feature on its website, allowing prospective customers to easily request a technical application design for any of the company’s adaptive water treatment solutions. When a design request is submitted from the company’s website, it is received and reviewed by an application engineer, who then works directly with the customer to provide a custom solution.
Blue-White® Industries awarded patent
Blue-White® Industries has been awarded a patent on its new Component Control System. U.S. Patent 8,639,363 was awarded for the method used to control two or more positive displacement pumps in a system. The Component Control System ensures that two or more positive displacement pumps, operating in a system together, will run only if all pumps in the system are running. This new patented feature is currently available on Blue-White’s Flex-Pro® A3 and A4 Metering Pumps, and Proseries-M® models M-3 and M-4 Metering Pumps.

NGWA accepting applications for new designation
The National Ground Water Association is now accepting applications for its new Certified Groundwater Professional (CGWP) designation, which signifies that the holder has a thorough background in groundwater subjects. The following core competencies ensure that the applicant has a diverse background in groundwater and sufficient skills to earn the designation: Groundwater hydrogeology and hydraulics, groundwater geochemistry, groundwater modeling, groundwater remediation, geology and geomorphology, scientific writing and presentation and ethics.
Orbeco-Hellige Inc. brand will transition to Lovibond
Tintometer GmbH, which acquired Orbeco-Hellige in 2006, has announced that it will now deemphasize the Orbeco-Hellige name and brand in favor of one consolidated, world-wide corporate identity centered around the Lovibond® brand. The Tintometer® Group has been offering the same products under the Lovibond® brand and the Orbeco-Hellige Inc. brand. The consolidated name will simplify and increase efficiency, helping Tintometer better serve customers globally.
DW&PS renews collaborative agreement with Haier
Dow Water & Process Solutions (DW&PS), a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, celebrated the first anniversary of its water purification business cooperation with Haier, while a new collaboration agreement was also agreed upon. Haier will purchase original USA-made residential FILMTEC™ reverse osmosis (RO) components for its high-end residential water purification products as part of the new agreement.
U.S. demand for filters to reach $14.8 billion in 2018
A new study from The Freedonia Group Inc. has found that U.S. demand for filters will advance 3.6 percent annually to $14.8 billion in 2018 with replacement demand accounting for the vast majority of filter sales. The development of filters featuring technologies that extend their useful life will have a mixed impact on demand, boosting sales since they are priced at a premium, but also restraining demand in volume terms. Both the original equipment and replacement filter markets will be aided by regulatory changes. The improved outlook for manufacturing and capital investment will also support filter demand.
Aquionics names new distributor Ryan Herco Flow Solutions
Aquionics has increased its exposure to customers in industrial markets by appointing Ryan Herco Flow Solutions of Burbank, Calif. as its new distributor. The company will represent the Aquionics line of UV disinfection systems across the U.S. Ryan Herco Flow Solutions has over 65 years of experience providing fluid handling and filtration products to customers. Aquionics disinfection equipment uses UV light to neutralize waterborne microorganisms in a chemical free and now highly energy efficient process with a new line of UV-LED disinfection and transmittance monitoring equipment.

Canature has announced the addition of several new employees who will be responsible for leading business development in specific regions across North America. The new hires add over 110 years of direct industry related experience to the team. The new employees include: David Taft, senior VP of business development, Eastern U.S. region; Jeff Hubbard, VP of business development, Central U.S. region; Marc Nolan, VP of business development, Western U.S. region; and Shelley Peters, director of business development, Canature Canada.
A new president has been appointed by the Canadian Bottled Water Association (CBWA). John Worsnop, plant operator of Eastern Ontario Water Technology d.b.a. Culligan of Eastern Ontario, has been chosen to lead the trade association. Worsnop has dedicated the past 15 years of his career to the development of the bottled water plant at Culligan Eastern Ontario Water Technology, and has spent the last several years serving on the board of directors for the CBWA promoting the industry on a much larger scale. Worsnop is the first Culligan dealer to be president of the CBWA.
