PHOENIX, Nov. 22, 2005 -- Carollo Engineers announced last week that it was named a 2005 Grand Award Winner by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Arizona for its design of the city of Yuma's Desert Dunes Water Reclamation Facility.

In designing this highly automated, state-of-the-art water reclamation facility, Carollo was respectful of the surrounding East Mesa desert and made certain the plant blended into its surrounding landscape. This design effort has produced a facility that virtually disappears from its neighbors' view while serving as a cornerstone water reclamation plant for the continued growth and development of Yuma, Arizona.

"The success of the Desert Dunes project can be credited to a remarkable partnership between the City of Yuma, Carollo and PCL Civil Constructors, Inc.," said John Cutright, Desert Dunes project manager and partner at Carollo Engineers. "This partnership was based on common goals and a commitment to build a facility that would serve the needs of the community in the most cost-effective and environmentally conscious way possible."

"Working with Carollo was a top-shelf experience," said John Ward, project manager for the City of Yuma. "During the two years of project construction, Carollo has been extremely cooperative and very responsive to upgrades and modifications to the design."

The Desert Dunes plant went on line earlier this summer and is currently operating at a treatment capacity of 3-million gallons per day (MGD). Located on an 80-acre campus on the East Mesa, the facility can expand to 12 MGD.
