New water filtration joint venture to revolutionize water reclamation in oil and gas industries

ALBANY, OR & SCOTTSDALE, AZ & SHREVEPORT, LA, Jan. 12, 2010 -- Hydration Technology Innovations, LLC (HTI), a developer and manufacturer of unique forward osmosis filtration systems, and Bear Creek Services, LLC (BCS), a leading energy-related service company, announced today the formation of a joint venture, called HBC Systems, to develop economically efficient and environmentally friendly water filtration technologies for the oil and gas industries.

"Our mission is to revolutionize water reclamation with green, cost-saving technologies, techniques and products. By combining the expertise of our two organizations, we will quickly bring effective new products and techniques to the oil and gas exploration marketplace," said Walt Schultz, chief executive officer of HTI headquartered in Scottsdale, Ariz.

HBC Systems will develop water filtration technology for the oil and gas industries, combining technologies individually developed by HTI and BCS, as well as new technologies to be developed by HBC.

"Fresh water is among the most valuable resources on the planet for sustaining economic growth and development," said Dr. Nathan Hutchings, President of BCS. "We believe that our two organizations have unique expertise and a commitment to the environment that will make us a world leader in water reclamation. Hutchings, a nationally recognized scientist and expert in the field of alternative water reclamation processes in the oil and gas industries, will lead HBC as president, from its headquarters in Shreveport, La.

In state-of-the-art plant facilities located in Albany, Or. HTI manufactures a proprietary forward osmosis membrane material that allows water to migrate through the membrane, powered only by a draw solution on the clean water side of the membrane, leaving behind virtually all contaminates. Osmosis is a natural process where liquids seek equilibrium when separated by a membrane or the wall of a cell, similar to the way water moves from the roots of a tree to the leaves. In the forward osmosis process water molecules flow through HTI's membrane, but do so without the need for high pumping pressure found in many traditional filtration systems. Thus, forward osmosis filtration systems use very little energy, are constructed from relatively low cost materials and are capable of filtering highly contaminated dirty water, even those containing high solid concentrations, without plugging.
