BIRMINGHAM — John Pearson, director and conference co-chair of Smart H2O Summit Inc., spoke with Water Technology Assistant Editor Maria Woodie about Smart H20 Summit, a brand new conference and exhibition scheduled Aug. 17-19 at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis Hotel.

In this special podcast exclusive, Pearson offers insight into the new event and what inspired its creation. “We aim to attract both publically owned and privately owned utilities,” Pearson explains in the podcast. “The stress will be on meeting peers from around the country and understanding how others approach similar problems and similar challenges, [and we also] intend to allow more time than normal for peer-to-peer engagement. … In short, you should leave the event wiser and better connected.”

When it comes to how innovative technologies can help address critical water-related challenges like aging infrastructure, droughts and water shortages, Pearson states, “We think that innovation in the infrastructure is key to building the robust industry of the future and to the whole sustainability equation. Droughts and water shortages fall under managing the resource better for the long term, and that is all part of doing things differently in the future and to employing the technology to give us a window into how to manage our water supply better.”

Other highlights in the podcast include: Groups/sectors within the water industry anticipated to attend the event; what visitors can expect to see, learn and do at the Smart H2O Summit; current, and possible future, global technologies and solutions; and more.
