Water treatment company to pay restitution for unlawful practices

CAMARILLO, Calif. — Aquakleen Products Inc. allegedly engaged in false advertising and misrepresented water quality to consumers.

CAMARILLO, Calif. — Nevada-based water filtration company Aquakleen Products Inc. has been ordered to pay thousands in restitution for unlawful trade practices, according to an article by the Ventura County Star.

Consumer protection laws in California require a three-day period in which customers can cancel a contract, but prosecutors allege the company installed more than 150 water treatment devices before that period, the article reported.

Ventura County Superior Court Judge Mark Borrell ordered the company and president Ross Allen Levine to pay $40,000 in restitution and civil penalties and $62,000 in costs, noted the article.

According to the article, the $5,000 water treatment devices were sold door to door and targeted primarily Spanish-speaking customers, allegedly engaging in false advertising and misrepresenting water quality to customers.

From now on, the article continued, Aquakleen must obtain building permits for all systems installed in Ventura County.
