Water utility in South Africa receives 2014 Stockholm Industry Water Award

STOCKHOLM — The eThekwini Water and Sanitation located in Durban, South Africa, received the Stockholm Industry Water Award (SIWA) at a ceremony during World Water Week in Stockholm, according to a press release.

The water and sanitation utility, which was established in 1992 and serves 3.5 million people around the Durban metropolitan area, received the award for its transformative and comprehensive approach to providing water and sanitation, stated the release.

In addition to effectively supplying basic water services to a large population, the eThekwini municipality harvests rainwater and pioneers solutions to transform urban wastewater challenges to agricultural opportunities, continued the release.

Since 2000, the SIWA celebrates companies' outstanding and transformative water achievements in improving production, finding solutions, managing risks and contributing to wise water management, noted the release.
