Industry news roundup: Wilo donates pumps to flood areas; Banyan Water partners with HydroTech; Aquabio wins Water Reuse Europe innovation award.

Wilo USA donates pumps to nonprofits in flood areas

ToolBank USA, a nonprofit that partners with other nonprofits to facilitate rebuilding after disasters, joined forces with Wilo USA to assist communities impacted by floods. Wilo USA, headquartered in Rosemont, Illinois, donated critically needed sump pumps to the Chicago Community ToolBank to equip organizations actively responding to late summer floods in Illinois and Wisconsin. Wilo donated an additional 100 dewatering pumps that were to be prepositioned at the nine other ToolBank affiliates across the United States to support similar response efforts. The Houston Community ToolBank was recently on the ground with Wilo’s pumps in Aransas County, Texas, an area affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Banyan Water partners with HydroTech

Banyan Water, a provider of data-driven water conservation for enterprises, announced a partnership with HydroTech Solutions, LLC, a commercial water conservation service provider, to enable commercial and industrial properties to streamline water use in cooling towers, boilers, water systems and graywater storage. The partnership fuses Banyan’s real-time analytics software with HydroTech’s HydroFLOW technology to optimize cooling tower water use. HydroTech’s partnership with Banyan provides key operating data for sustainability or facility managers and easy integration with building automation systems to help customers conserve water, reduce costs, and increase asset value.

Aquabio wins Water Reuse Europe innovation award

In conjunction with Bakkavor, a U.K.-based provider of fresh prepared foods, Aquabio has been awarded the inaugural Water Reuse Europe award for the Most Innovative Water Reuse Scheme at the association’s annual conference in Bruges, Belgium. The award recognizes Aquabio’s water reuse solution at Bakkavor’s Cucina Sano site in Boston, Lincolnshire, as a project at the forefront of water reuse practice in Europe. The new installation, which became fully operational in December 2016, enables more than 80 percent of the water used to be safely recycled. The plant treats up to 700,000 liters per day and as of September 2017, more than 72.35 percent of wastewater received from the factory has been reused, a total of 123 million liters.

Elements of the project that judges highlighted included:

  • The scheme delivers the highest percentage of reuse of treated wastewater back to the factory of any large-scale food production site in Europe
  • Reuse water is returned to the factory for general use in all potable grade supplies, including for food production, ingredients, canteen and softened water
  • It has been implemented in one of the most risk averse business sectors, food production, significantly contributing to changing corporate and public perception about the viability of large scale water reuse by multinational food producers
  • The project makes use of the advanced low energy MBR technology and RO system, with UV and chlorine dosing
