World Bank provides loans to Indian water projects

NEW DELHI — The World Bank will provide $360 million in loans for water projects in Uttar Pradesh.

NEW DELHI — The World Bank has announced that it will provide $360 million in loans for restructuring water-related projects in Uttar Pradesh in northern India, according to an article from The Times of India.

"[The] objective of the project is to support the state government on capacity building of Water Users Association, rehabilitation and modernization of irrigation and drainage systems, rehabilitation of dams, development of basin river planning strategies, groundwater studies, knowledge base and flood management systems," said the union finance ministry in a statement.

Nilaya Mitash, a joint secretary in the department of economic affairs in the union finance ministry signed the loan agreement for the project with a completion deadline of Oct. 31, 2020.
