KADIMA, Israel — The world's largest seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant is fully operational, according to a press release.

IDE Technologies' and Hutchinson Water's Sorek plant can produce 624,000 m3/day of potable water and is currently supplying Israel's water system with 540,000 m3/day, the release reported.

According to the release, the $400 million plant uses IDE's advanced membrane desalination technology.

Efforts to decrease energy consumption and minimize impacts on the surrounding environments have been made, noted the release.

"Ushering in a new standard in the global desalination industry, the Sorek plant reinforces our leading position in the industry's mega-SWRO space," said Avshalom Felber, CEO of IDE Technologies.
