EPA supports Texas water quality with $63.5M grant

The state will assist communities and state agencies with financial assistance, including loans, for wastewater improvements.

DALLAS — Oct. 22, 2015 — The Texas Water Development Board received more than $63.5 million from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to support clean water project in Texas, according to a press release.

The funds will go "to the state’s Clean Water Revolving Loan Fund (CWSRF) which provides, low-interest, flexible loans to communities to help them improve water quality and infrastructure," stated the release.

Texas will assist communities and state agencies with financial assistance, including loans, for wastewater improvements, noted the release. Drinking water sources as well as water quality in streams, lakes, rivers and bays, and aquatic life will benefit from the funding. The public may also benefit from reduced hazards such as raw sewage discharges.

The CWSRF has been the country’s largest source of water quality financing for more than 25 years, reported the release. The grant provider has given out more than $105.4 billion through 34,900 low-cost loans since 1987.
