OTC honors industry achievers at annual conference
Industry experts from more than 100 countries gathered in Houston, Texas in May for the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC). Seventeen technologies from exhibiting companies received OTC spotlight on New Technology Awards, including two companies that also won the Small Business Award. John Bomba received the OTC 2017 Distinguished Achievement Award for Individuals for more than 60 years of far-reaching contributions to the offshore sector. The Distinguished Achievement Award for Companies, Organizations and Institutions was presented to LLOG Exploration Offshore LLC in recognition of its outstanding work on the Delta House project. OTC’s Heritage Award was presented to George Conner for championing the safe development of new technologies in the Gulf of Mexico. Additionally, Art Schroeder received a Special Citation for his contributions to the industry and OTC.
Water supply project earns global desalination plant honor
The Escondida Water Supply project in Chile was selected Industrial Desalination Plant of the Year at the 2017 Global Water Summit. The plant increases water supply by creating purified water from seawater and delivering it to the largest copper mine in the world. The project delivers 2,500 liters of water per second (57 million gallons a day) to support operations at the Escondida mine, making it the largest in the Western Hemisphere. Black & Veatch served as engineer of record and led the engineering design, procurement, resident engineering, pre-commissioning and commissioning for the marine and desalination components. The Escondida copper mine is majority-owned and operated by BHP Billiton.
Mazzei Injector Company and MISCOwater join forces
MISCOwater was granted exclusive rights to sell Mazzei Injector Company systems to the municipal water and wastewater markets in California, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada. Mazzei designs and manufactures fluid mixing and contacting technologies, provides systems and components for ozone, aeration and chemical treatment for the industrial and municipal water and wastewater sectors.

Nestlé Waters North America announces investment in Closed Loop Fund
Nestlé Waters North America is investing $6 million into the Closed Loop Fund, a $100 million social impact investment fund committed to finding a national solution to the critical recycling gap in the U.S. The program is part of a shared effort among business, government and community partners to fund comprehensive recycling infrastructure and programs in cities across the U.S. Nestlé Waters joins some of the world’s largest companies in the Closed Loop Fund, such as 3M, Coca-Cola, Colgate-Palmolive, Goldman Sachs, Johnson & Johnson, Keurig Green Mountain, PepsiCo and the PepsiCo Foundation, Procter & Gamble, Unilever and Walmart and the Walmart Foundation.

Evoqua selected by Boeing for water treatment services

Dow receives EPA Safer Choice Partner of the Year Award

Ritter Technology expands with Fluid Systems Engineering acquisition
Ritter Technology LLC acquired Clinton Township, Michigan-based Fluid Systems Engineering, strengthening the company’s engineered hydraulic and pneumatic products offerings to customers in the greater Detroit area. Fluid Systems Engineering has been serving automotive, industrial and government markets for nearly 56 years. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
BNSF Railway Company to begin work at abandoned uranium mines
The Environmental Protection Agency reached an agreement with BNSF Railway Company to begin cleanup at the Haystack Mines Site, a group of three abandoned uranium mines near Prewitt, New Mexico and the Baca/Prewitt chapter, on Navajo Nation. The mines site operated from 1952 to 1981 and produced 400,000 tons of uranium ore. Currently, the 174-acre area is being used for livestock grazing and includes one residence with some additional homes. The work is expected to begin in July and last for four months.

Chevron Phillips Chemical expands Belgium plant
Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC expanded its Tessenderlo, Belgium plant by debottlenecking its production unit for Ethyl Mercaptan and Tetrahydrothiophene. Construction began in November 2016 and the expansion commenced operations in May 2017. This expansion increased production capacity for these products by 65 percent.
